12 comments share on facebook | share on twitter | pin on pinterest review: tatcha ritual discovery kit posted on june 8, 2015 by shouting chow after writing a post on facial toners and listing tatcha as one of my favorite one, a representative from tatcha actually reached out to me to share more of their collection with me. i was super excited since this was the first time a brand reached out to me to try out their product. i’ve been interested in their other products so i thought this would be a great opportunity for me to try it out! don’t worry though, i will be honest with my opinion and won’t let this free product sway me. she first asked me to fill out their online skin care questionnaire to find out what kind of skin type i have. you can also fill it out here. i like how they have a questionnaire for people to figure out which products to buy and it’s not a buy one fit all since we know everyone has different skin types. i got sensitive, which i’m not surprised since my face is pretty sensitive to harsh chemicals! she sent me the tatcha ritual discovery kit, which is a great intro to their essential four-step ritual. this kit comes with the camellia cleansing oil, rice enzyme powder exfoliant, brightening serum, and moisture rich silk cream. the camellia cleansing oil is really unique from all the other oil cleanser i’ve used. the direction says to massage this oil onto your dry face and hands for 10 seconds and then rinse away. i was skeptical about this product but it actually works! i love how gentle this oil is on my skin but yet strong enough to melt away all my makeup. another great thing about this oil cleanser is that it doesn’t leave an “oily” residue that most oil-based cleanser does. the only negative thing i about this product is that it contains one medium hazard ingredient. ingredients (one medium hazard ingredient): cetyl ethylhexanoate, oryza sativa (rice) bran oil, polyglyceryl-10 dioleate, polyglyceryl-2 sesquicaprylate, camellia japonica seed oil, glyceryl behenate/eicosadioate, water, algae extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, glycerin, ethylhexylglycerin, alcohol, fragrance (natural), phenoxyethanol formulated without: mineral oil, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, pegs, ppgs, urea, dea, tea or phthalates. the rice enzyme powder exfoliant is a super gentle, non-abrasive exfoliant that works on all skin type. i like how it just gently polish the top layer of my skin, leaving it really smooth. the design of the opening of the jar isn’t the best since you can tell some of the powder gets stuck in the crack. also you have to be careful your fingers are dry when you’re opening and pouring out the container so you don’t want any water to get in the hole, which will contaminate the powder. this product also has three medium hazard ingredients. ingredients (3 medium hazard ingredients): oryza sativa (rice) powder, microcrystalline cellulose, potassium myristate, cellulose, water, papain (papaya extract), camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, hydrolyzed conchiolin (pearl) protein, oryza sativa (rice) bran, algae extract, glycerin, dextrin, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, alcohol, phenoxyethanol formulated without: mineral oil, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, pegs, ppgs, urea, dea, tea or phthalates. the deep brightening serum is a very light, almost liquidity serum. the serum is very gentle so it should work on all skin types. it’s a small bottle but one pump goes a long way. the scent is very light. ingredients (2 medium hazard ingredients): water, glycerin, propanediol, alcohol, cyclopentasiloxane, squalane (olive origin), isocetyl stearate, inositol (rice extract), oryza sativa (rice) germ oil, polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, polyglyceryl-10 isostearate, ethylhexylglycerin, glyceryl stearate, behenyl alcohol, sericin (silk extract), arginine, carbomer, xanthan gum, biosaccharide gum-1, sodium hyaluronate, zizyphus jujuba fruit extract, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, cetearyl alcohol, sodium lauroyl lactylate, sorbitan stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hydrogenerated lecithin (soy origin), algae extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, fragrance (natural), phenoxyethanol formulated without: kojic acid, hydroquinone, mineral oil, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, pegs, ppgs, urea, dea, tea or phthalates. the moisture rich silk cream is a super light-weight cream. they call it a “gel-cream of liquid silk”, which is a perfect description of this cream. there’s a light, almost citrus fragrance. ingredients (two medium hazard ingredients): water, glycerin, propanediol, alcohol, cyclopentasiloxane, isocetyl stearate, squalane (olive origin), inositol (rice extract), caprylic/capric triglyceride, sorbitan stearate, behenyl alcohol, stearic acid, oryza sativa (rice) germ oil, hydrogenated lecithin (soy origin), polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, batyl alcohol, ethylhexylglycerin, arginine, bis-behenyl/isostearyl/phytosteryl dimer dilinoleyl dimer dilinoleate, carbomer, sericin (silk extract), xanthan gum, biosaccharide gum-1, sodium hyaluronate, panax ginseng root extract, royal jelly extract, thymus serpillum extract, algae extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, fragrance (natural) , phenoxyethanol formulated without: mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, pegs, ppgs, urea, dea, tea or phthalates. my skin is nice and soft and bright! verdict overall i think the tatcha ritual discovery kit is a great kit to start with if you never used tatcha before and you wanted an intro to their line. i like how the kit is travel size so i can bring it on my carry-on when i travel. my favorite product out of this kit is the camellia cleansing oil since it takes away all my makeup and is gentle on my skin. my normal travel size facial wash is gentle enough to wash my face but not strong enough to take off my makeup. i usually use coconut oil to take my makeup off but they’re not easy to bring on carry-on since it leaks and is sensitive to heat. my next favorite is the rice enzyme powder just because it’s a nice, gentle exfoliant that makes my skin soft and smooth. i like using the cleansing oil and rice enzyme powder together especially when i’m wearing makeup since i know my skin is getting a thorough cleanse. i would most likely buy the travel size camellia cleansing oil again since it’s hard to find a gentle oil cleanser that’s small enough to bring on a carry-on. the only con about this kit is that not all the ingredients are safe so you just have to be aware of that. tips: i use the camellia cleansing oil and rice enzyme powder at night but in the morning, i only use the rice enzyme powder. if you bought each travel size product individually, it would cost $99 (camellia cleansing oil $12, rice enzyme powder $15, deep brightening serum $39, moisture rich silk cream $33) but with the kit it’s only $59! if you want to “test” out the product first before buying, you can find them in sephora and barneys. 4 comments share on facebook | share on twitter | pin on pinterest june 2015 goals posted on june 1, 2015 by shouting chow thoughts/updates this month: can you believe it’s june already? that means the year is almost halfway over! have you reviewed your new year resolution? how is that coming along? for me, not so great. ugh. i met my new team members for the first time. it was the first time we got to meet each other in person. i didn’t know what to expect going into this “weekend retreat” but it turned out to be a lot better than i expected. i met some wonderful people, learned more about the sf community, and felt more connected and driven to help this community. i went to new orleans for the first time for a friend’s bachelorette. i only heard of the famous bourbon street (aka party scene) but it turned out there was so much more to new orleans, such as the yummy food, rich culture, and warm hospitality of the south. one of my favorite part of the trip was checking out the garden district and learning about the history of new orleans. i would definitely recommend a tour of that area if you do go to new orleans. i went down to irvine for my mother-in-law’s ordination ceremony. i can’t believe she’s officially a pastor! yay! hearing the testimonies from others reminded me that god is a living god and he’s not just some stories we read in the bible. while i was down in irvine, i also got the chance to meet shannon for the first time in person. i met her through the blogging world and as i go to know her through her blog and instagram, she didn’t seem like a stranger but more like a friend so it was a joy to finally meet her in person. i had a great time getting to know her more personally. we both love coffee so i was glad i was able to introduce her to sea salt coffee at 85c bakery (one of my favorite spot for sea salt coffee and pastry). that’s one great thing about blogging that i didn’t expect — to find new friends i also went to cancun for the first time for a friend’s wedding. that was really fun and relaxing since we stayed at an all inclusive resort so we didn’t have to worry about food or drinks although i felt like i had to eat/drink every hour to get my money’s worth. i also went snorkeling for the first time! we went on a boat to the middle of the ocean to go snorkeling. i was just tagging along, not expecting to get into the ocean since i can’t swim. the tour guide really wanted me to try it out and there were some peer pressure from the others so i actually jumped into the ocean (with a life jacket of course!). it was initially scary since this was the first time i’ve been in the water where my feet can’t touch the ground but eventually i was able to relax somewhat. the tour guide was really nice enough to pull me along the life-saver ring so i can look in the water. this was the best step i’ve taken so far to face my fear of the water. have you ever used cetaphil before? i remember this cleanser being really popular since it’s suppose to be gentle and fragrance free, so perfect for all skin type. my facialist in atlanta told me to stop using because of all the harmful ingredients in it so i stopped. this was almost 10 years ago. then just a couple of weeks ago, one of my friend mentioned that she still uses cetaphil. i told her to stop using it but didn’t have the exact reason except what my facialist told me 10 years ago, which was kinda hazy at this point. i happen to come across this article a couple of days after our conversation, which perfectly explains why you should stop using cetaphil if you do. this post and this comic strip got me thinking about privilege and how a lot of people are born with privilege without realizing it. last month’s goals: catch up on #365daysoftruth plan and complete month 5. i’m just four days behind so not too bad. focus on studying calculus. i should have been more specific but i did finish watching the online videos and taking the practice test. read one book this month. didn’t read any book last month donate at least a box of stuff to goodwill. i did fill up a box for donation but just haven’t dropped it off at goodwill yet. workout once a week. i haven’t worked out this month blog once a week. i missed a week take more pictures of people! yes! although i should probably have a specific target. this month’s goals: complete month 6 of #365daysoftruth plan. pass the calculus test. read one book this month. workout once a week. blog once a week. turn in my homework assignment on time. spend below the new calculated budget. what are your goals for this month? 11 comments share on facebook | share on twitter | pin on pinterest ← older posts welcome thank you for visiting and welcome to my blog!
