raw, organic, unfiltered acv. raw acv includes “the mother”—sediment that is filled with enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria. you can easily spot raw, unpasteurized acv by its cloudy appearance. here are just a few of the ways you can use this useful liquid in your daily life.  acv also moonlights as a helpful beauty product,  but we’ll save that topic for another day. 1. tame tummy troubles acv has a high pectin content, which can help treat diarrhea by forming bulk fibrous matter in the gut. in layman’s terms, let’s just say it firms things up. the pectin also forms a protective coat in the gut that soothes the colon lining and relaxes intestinal spasms. try mixing one or two tablespoons into water or clear juice like apple juice. 2. hiccup help acv can be a great solution for hiccups. it restores the acid balance in the stomach and eases irritating spasms of the diaphragm. a 13-year-old even created an apple cider vinegar and sugar lollipop to stop hiccups. 3. sore throat soothing turn to acv at the first sign of a tickle in your throat. most germs can’t survive in the acidic environment vinegar creates. gargle with equal parts acv and warm water every hour, or try this apple pie tonic recipe. 4. exhaustion relief exercise and extreme stress can cause lactic acid to build up in the body, causing fatigue. apple cider vinegar contains potassium and enzymes that can relieve that tired feeling. next time you’re feeling exhausted, try downing 1 to 2 tablespoons of the stuff diluted in juice or water. 5. relaxes nighttime leg cramps acv taken diluted in water twice a day can dissolve acid crystals in the blood and provide potassium, calcium and other essential minerals that the body needs to ease leg cramps. 6. banishes bad breath if you suffer from halitosis, acv increase the availability of amino acids to create more growth hormone.  mix 2 teaspoons of the vinegar into a glass of water and drink this before every meal or sip it slowly throughout the day. 9. makes iron more bioavailable the acid found in apple cider vinegar helps release iron from food so that your body can use it. 10. lowers cholesterol some research has suggested that apple cider vinegar can improve the lipid profile of blood by decreasing the levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (ldl-c) or bad cholesterol and by increasing the levels of high-density merry!  i walk a fine line between loving to party with friends and family and not having any time to do anything.  it’s no fun when hosting a party becomes a burden.  over the years, i have discovered some strategies to help keep the fun in the party and leave the stress far behind.   read through to the end to learn how you can win an incredible trip to napa valley, california! secrets to hosting a stress-free holiday party quit trying to be perfect!  you can have a perfect holiday party even when things go wrong.  focus on your guests and everything will be just fine. simple food and decor is perfectly acceptable when it is put together with thought.  simple, healthy ingredients are perfect for even the pickiest of party-goers.   write out lists.  write out grocery lists, lists of your favorite recipes, and decor ideas.  it is also helpful to have a guest list including phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses.  keep these lists in a holiday binder so that you can events.  casual events are certainly more comfortable for children and parents with small children.  set up a buffet and let everyone fill their plates with their favorites.  there is no need to make people feel uncomfortable because of their food preferences.  set up chairs around the room and bring in extra seating if needed.  i also like to clear space for mingling.   this really helps to keep the conversation going and allows room for toddlers to play with mom and dad nearby.   prepare a holiday playlist.   a great holiday playlist always keeps me relaxed.  humming along as i set things up sets the mood for a joyous party.  setting the mood is also important for guests.  most parties start out pretty quiet.  a great playlist in the background creates fun conversation starters and “hides the quiet” until your guests relax and get the party going.   i love the holidays and celebrating with friends and family.  i’m also a busy mom.  busy is a constant in my life and the holidays only make things busier.  i’m sure you can relate all too well.  i don’t let busy stop me from really enjoying the holidays and i don’t want busy to stop you either.  stella cheeses are a big part of my to fuel the activities we want our bodies to perform is an important concept to understand.  in a world full of processed junk food, it’s easy to forget that we eat to fuel or bodies and prevent disease.  share this article with your friends and make sure you read to the end.  i don’t want you to miss out on the awesome deal at the end.   cardio-kickboxing on mondays, crossfit on tuesdays, spinning on wednesdays, aerial yoga on thursdays, and booty boot camp on friday—in a time when boutique fitness studios reign supreme, it’s easy to get fit without getting bored. but the one thing running through exercisers brains regardless of the type of workout? “what am i going to eat after this?” the truth is, different workouts call for different types of post-exercise fuel. best-case scenario, eating the right thing after a workout can help you lose weight, build muscle, and feel awesome. worst-case, you’re sabotage your progress by eating the wrong things. here’s what you need to know about eating after every kind of sweat session to best recover and recharge. timing is (kinda) important when to eat and what to eat are the two main factors when it comes to post-workout nutrition. eating at the right time—and getting the proper balance of macronutrients—can aid weight-loss, muscle-building, recovery, and fighting inflammation. first, take stock of when you typically work out. do you like to get your sessions over with at dawn, or prefer to get moving once the sun goes down? if you’re sweating in the morning on an empty stomach, you should always eat afterwards—even if that means making a portable breakfast to bring to work. if you’re working out in the evening and haven’t had dinner, you definitely need to eat when you’re done exercising—try to eat at least three hours before bed so you don’t mess with your sleep cycle. but if you chow down before you head to the gym, no need to refuel when you get back home. the idea of a “fuel window”—that you need to eat within 30 minutes of finishing a sweat sesh—is pure myth. and unless you’re absolutely starving, you can count your breakfast the next morning as your refueling meal. consider the type of exercise how you’ve used (and abused) your body during your workouts informs what you should eat to help repair it. low-intensity activity like: yoga, pilates, barre classes what to eat: protein for classes that are a little more slow-paced, you may not need a full meal or snack directly after your workout. yoga, pilates, and the like are often called “mind-body” exercises—because sure, getting into pigeon pose is challenging physically, but it’s just as difficult to mentally stay in it as you inhale-exhale through the discomfort. usually these classes don’t torch a ton of calories, but they’re great for maintaining flexibility and range of motion as well as building overall strength. we tend to overestimate our caloric burn during workouts and underestimate how many calories we eat. and while counting calories isn’t everything, if you think you’ve burned a ton in your weekly pilates class and always “refuel” with a calorie-dense meal after, that’s a pretty easy way to gain weight. in general, these workouts don’t tax your body so much that you require an extra meal after in order to recover and compensate for what you’ve burned. it’s best to hydrate during this type of exercise with water, and to try and wait until your next regular meal to eat. if you’re feeling really hungry, grab a protein-heavy snack like a nutrition bar or shake that’s around 200 calories—the protein should help you stay full until you can sit down to eat. high-intensity activity like: spinning, boxing, sprints, boot camp, crossfit what to eat: protein and carbs high-intensity workouts are those that require short, challenging bursts of energy. usually they don’t take longer than 45 minutes or an hour, but leave you feeling wiped. because muscles are used for quick, explosive power (e.g. repeating 30-second sprints, followed by a minute of jogging, on the treadmill), the glycogen that’s stored in them doesn’t get completely used up like it would in an endurance workout that takes longer, but is less intense. so there’s no need to hit the carbohydrates hard to replenish glycogen stores—focus instead on eating an equal amount of protein and carbs instead to help muscle fibers rebuild and prevent damage. this type of vigorous exercise also burns a lot of calories, so you’ll probably be hungry after! pair about 30 to 50 grams of protein with an equal amount of complex carbs for optimal recovery—that’s about the equivalent of a three-egg omelette with a couple pieces of toast. endurance activity like: long-distance runs or bike rides, basketball, soccer what to eat: carbs anything that lasts longer than 60 minutes can be considered endurance activity. of course, a 90-minute restorative yoga class isn’t the same as running a 90-minute half marathon! use your best judgement based on how hard you feel you’ve exerted yourself during a workout. the opposite of high-intensity workouts, endurance exercise uses up all our muscles’ glycogen stores. that means you’ll want to focus more on recharging muscles with carbs after this type of workout—30 to 60 grams is a good target, and ends up being about what you’ll get in a cooked sweet potato, plus a serving of quinoa or rice. remember that at the end of day, the primary role of nutrition is to nourish your body. food should help you recover from exercise and improve your athletic performance. it might take like a dream come true combined with your worst nightmare.  the dream includes the hugs and smiling faces of your loved ones as they enjoy the meal you have prepared for them.  the nightmare?  that’s the new recipes you have never tried before.  trying to find the perfect timing of the meal.  burning yourself on the oven rack.  running out of places to stir. a totally inadequate amount of oven space. and the constant worrying ahead of time. do i have the right tools to prepare the meal? my favorite kitchen tools for preparing a perfect thanksgiving turkey. click to tweet i probably can’t to “be prepared”.  the best way to do that is to make sure you have all of the tools you need ahead of time.  you might even want to practice a little with them so you are familiar with how they work.  the goal is to make sure there are no surprises on thanksgiving day.  and if there are surprises on thanksgiving………….they will have nothing to do with your preparation of the meal.   make the your turkey.  if you have plenty of room in the oven, you can use a traditional roasting pan.  if you are planning on cooking lots of sides in the oven, you may want to look at an electronic roaster
