(note: if you’re vegetarian/vegan, or just simply want a delicious veggie stock recipe, you can check mine out here.) bone broth is a bit different because it is made from primarily bones (sometimes vegetables and other ingredients are added) and is simmered for much longer than a typical broth or stock. this long cooking time allows the broth to get as many minerals and nutrients from the bones as possible. what are the benefits of bone broth? so, why is everyone losing their minds over bone broth? the truth is that bone broth has been around since our ancestors, but with the rise of autoimmune disorders and other diseases, it makes sense that bone broth is gaining popularity. bone broth is a wonderful and easy way for the body to absorb nutrients and its high gelatin content helps to heal the gut and support the immune system. it also improves digestion, soothes joint pain, aids ligament recovery, strengthens bones and nails, and makes skin glow. where can i get bone broth? bone broth is fairly easy to make, but the good news is that if you’re short on time or simply don’t want to spend the time to make your own, there are ready-to-consume options available! one of my favorites is bare bones broth because they use 100% pasture-raised animals (who are raised on open pastures and free of antibiotics and hormones), and organic vegetables and herbs in all of their broths. their broths taste richer and fresher than some of the other varieties i’ve tried and i’m currently obsessed with their tomato and spice beef flavor. you can find their broths online here, or if you’re in the seattle area, they’re available at most pcc stores. how do i use bone broth? i personally like to sip bone broth straight, but you can also use it as you would normally use a broth for soups or sauces. i’ve recently been enjoying a cup of bone broth either as a mid-morning snack or after my workout (in place of a green smoothie or protein shake). i love how comforting it is, plus, it helps to keep me full until the next meal! have you tried bone broth yet?
