he calls me graceby katie doolinmeet katie contact faq’s blogging tools shop happy halloween! october 31, 2016 by katie doolin leave a comment filed under: lifestyle tagged with: holidaysread | 002 september 6, 2016 by katie doolin 1 comment in a dark, dark wood | ruth ware this book was a kindle read. in a dark, dark wood was a good suspense book. it’s even in production to become a movie! it’s about a group of people who go to a bachelorette party, otherwise known in the book as a hen party (it’s a british book). the main character hasn’t seen the bride in years, and she’s not even sure why she has been invited. she decides to give it a go and shows up with a mutual friend. through out the whole book, you aren’t sure what happened in their past, but you know something did. you also find out that someone has been murdered, but like her memory, you don’t really know what happened. the storyline jumps around while you try to put the pieces together. definitely a good quick read. behind closed doors | b.a. paris another british book. i don’t normally read british books, but i have been trying them out more and more. this one i listened to on audible. i was really disappointed in it. the tagline for behind closed doors reads “the perfect marriage, or the perfect lie.” as you get into the book you realize the newlyweds aren’t as happy as they seem. after knowing each other a short time, grace and jack get married. they have brunch with friends, they visit grace’s sister and take a exquisite honeymoon. but, then you realize that grace is never alone, she doesn’t own a cell phone, quit her job and can’t even seem to make it to brunch without jack. his dark temperament is not what she expected when they met. while, this whole story line sounds dark and thrilling, it wasn’t that. it was slow paced, and flat out boring. a game of thrones, a clash of kings, a storm of swords, a feast for crows (a song of fire and ice, #1, 2, 3, & 4) | george r.r. martin i’ve been listening to the books on audible while i’m working. at first it was hard to listen to and keep up with, but i’ve seen the series and it made it a lot easier to understand the locations and the characters. otherwise, i would have definitely been lost! i’m halfway through the 4th book, and it’s keeping me excited about it until the show starts back up again. has anyone tried to read the books? if so, did you like the show or the book better? next on the list: big little lies | lianne moriarty i just started this one over the long weekend on my kindle. another british book that i’m giving a try. it’s also going to be an hbo series that comes out in 2017. facebook | twitter | instagram |pinterst this blog post contains affiliate links. filed under: library tagged with: readread | 001 august 4, 2016 by katie doolin leave a comment one | read my favorite thing to read on is the kindle paperwhite, it’s seriously the easiest way to go! it’s light so i can always have it in my bag, it’s backlit so i can read before bed and there is no reflection so i can read outside too. it’s amazing. two | listen lately, i’ve become a listener as well. have you ever actually listed to a book-on-tape? it’s actually pretty awesome! i started listening to books through audible at work when i got bored of the same music selections. i put my headphones in and get lost in another world while i sit at my cubicle typing away on the computer. there is a monthly fee for audible, and you do still have to buy credits to buy books. at first i thought it seemed like a lot of money, but if i choose wisely then i can get a good bargain. i’ve been working my way through a game of thrones series, right now i’m on book four. the books are super expensive on their own, but buying the credits i was able to get them for about $15 each.  you also get free credits every month. get your 30 day free trial to audible three | borrow i love checking out my library’s website and borrowing books to read. you won’t always find the newest popular books available, and sometimes there are waiting lists. but, this is the way to go for quick and easy summer reads. and the best thing is, if you don’t like a book that you’ve started then you can return it and pick a new one! kindle unlimited is also another go to for borrowing books. there is a monthly fee, but it’s worth it if you read a lot. trust me. four | completed i started a reading challenge on goodreads at the beginning of the year, setting my goal to be 25 books for the year. i’ve hit 31 by august. when i listen to them i do make it through a book much quicker, depending on the length i can usually listen to a couple of books a week. five | wish list  my wishlist is always growing. i’ve got one started on pinterest, amazon, goodreads… what’s on your wishlist? facebook | twitter | instagram |pinterst this blog post contains affiliate links. filed under: library tagged with: readjust start august 1, 2016 by katie doolin 1 comment they always say that the hardest thing to do, is to start. right now, i feel like that is a saying that is resinating with me. one that i just can’t seem to get past. if you have been here before, you may realize that this is the first post you’ve seen in months, probably a year. that’s because i’m choosing to start. i’ve been worrying about what my first come-back post should be for days, then weeks and soon months. i realize how much time i have lost because i was to scared to just start. what is the worse that could happen anyways? i might like it? someone else might like it? i might become inspired? this month, i’m setting goals that i am going to just start… one | blogging i have drafts, i have ideas. now is the time to sit down and make the effort to put all of this information into posts. start scheduling my time to work on the blog and not get behind. i want to stay ahead of myself and plan as much as i can out so that i don’t feel rushed and then shut down and not post anything at all. have you ever felt this way? two | working out i signed my husband and i up for a gym membership to the local ymca that is right down the road from us. i signed us up last weekend and wanted to start first thing monday. but, then i’ve been sick this past week and it was put on the back burner. i don’t want to let the membership be something that i just pay for every month and never use, like i’ve done in the past. i plan on starting slow, i’ve never been one to work out regularly. and when i was in my early twenties, i didn’t really need to. but, it’s amazing how hitting your thirties and working a desk job will affect that so quickly. three | saving our ongoing goal is to get our finances in order to buy a house. we’ve had a lot of changes in the last three months to help us get this started, but haven’t had a chance to actually get much saved. we moved back near my family and our rent is significantly cheaper. this gave my husband a chance to leave his job and start looking for something new that will make him happier. otherwise, after the move his commute would have been an hour one way trip. the first month was a little unknown while he took a lower level job to pay the bills and so he could keep looking. after one month, he finally was offered the job that he had been interviewing for. we are finally settling into regular paychecks again and can get our budget back in order. today is the start of a new month, and i think it is the perfect time for a start to a new katie and a new he calls me grace. i’m realizing how much time i spend at home that isn’t productive. i want to be intentional with my time and make it count for something. i’ll keep updating these goals, and hopefully if all goes well, i will have positive results to share with you at the end of the month. what are your goals going into the new month?
