to educate our youth about fire safety and prevention. also watch for volunteers to visit nursing facilities in the area to conduct fire drills and ensure the safety of residents. brewfest 2016 back mountain regional fire & ems would like to thank everyone that came out to support our first annual brew fest, this years profits were utilized to purchase a lucas™ chest compression system. this device is a safe and efficient tool that performs cpr by doing this, it frees up rescuers to focus on other life-saving tasks and creates new rescue opportunities. the following is an article published by the dallas post: dallas twp. — held at the luzerne county fairgrounds and surrounded by mountains bursting with color, the inaugural back mountain brew fest was a hit with local and out-of-town beer lovers. sponsored by the back mountain regional fire & ems, saturday’s event featured 40 breweries, food vendors, live entertainment, crafts and games such as a giant-sized beer pong contest. “we’re very happy with the turnout,” said bobby skasko, chairman of the event. skasko, who is the ambulance chief and fire lieutenant for the back mountain regional fire & ems, said funds from the event will be earmarked to help purchase a lucas device, an automated cpr machine. the device runs about $17,000. roughly 500 tickets were sold in advance of the event, said back mountain regional ems volunteer brenda pugh. “i’ve got people on facebook asking me if we take credit cards. that’s pretty good,” she said. “for the first time out of the gate, there’s been a lot of interest and a lot of vendors that wanted to get in at the last minute. “next year, it’s going to be even bigger and better even though this year it’s pretty great.” as the line at his table kept growing, it was evident that fred maier, co-founder of susquehanna brewing company, wasn’t getting a break any time soon. working alone, maier jumped from one tap to another, filling glass after glass with beer from his truck. when asked what the most popular beer out of the five he offered was, maier said it was a toss-up between goldencold lager and belgian tripel. maier said he participates in beer festivals all over the mid-atlantic region. “it’s fun to get out and meet people and talk about the beer,” he said. “that’s the best part of making beer. i do this all over the state, so it’s fun to do one in your own backyard.” wearing a necklace strung with pretzels and sipping a belgian tripel, steve kronenwetter, 59, of elk county, said he heard about the festival from his son, who lives in dallas. “this is a gorgeous fall day, with great entertainment, great food and a really nice venue,” he said. holding glasses of lancaster pumpkin ale, dallas residents rachel vidumsky and paige makowsky, both 22, said they came to the festival mostly to try the fall beers, but also sampled a variety of others. “it’s nice to try the different beers that you don’t get at the local bars,” said makowsky. “it’s really nice that this is in dallas,” added vidumsky, pointing out that she and her friend usually have to travel out of the area to attend beer festivals. “i’m so excited to be here,” she said. “it’s a really fun environment, and everyone is really welcoming.” reach the times leader newsroom at 570-829-7242 or on twitter @tlnews. about back mountain regional fire & ambulance back mountain fire & ems was formed in 2013 as a combination of dallas fire & ambulance, lehman township volunteer fire department and shavertown volunteer fire company. through this regionalization, the company provides dallas and its neighboring back mountain municipalities with the area’s premiere fire and ambulance service. the department serves a population of 30,000 people over a 61 mile area. back mountain regional responds to 3,000 emergencies each year from its 3 stations located at 184 east center hill road, dallas township, 23 firehouse road, lehman and 170 n. main st., shavertown. its reputation for excellence and for providing the highest quality care has allowed the company to recruit the area’s top paramedics and emt’s to staff its 4 ambulances which are available 24 hours per day with full-time staff members. back mountain regional’s paramedic service has achieved an industry reputation of excellence for providing the highest level of quality care in the area. our record and commitment to the service has allowed us to recruit the area’s top paramedic’s and emt’s to staff our 4 ambulances which are available 24 hours per day with its full-time staff. the fire department has been recognized for the professional qualifications of its members by the pennsylvania office of the state fire commissioner through its professional certification program. the program certifies departments for its accomplishment in training and education when it meets or exceeds the nationally recognized standards. back mountain regional fire department is the only area department which has been recognized for having over 50% of its fire personnel certified. our equipment consists of 2 pumper trucks, 2 rescue trucks, 2 ladder trucks, 2 tankers, 4 ambulances, 2 bls 2 als, 2 brush trucks, 1 6x6 utility vehicle, 1 hazardous materials trailer, 1 incident command trailer and a large inventory of portable equipment to provide various services during natural disaster incidents. back mountain regional is led by fire chief harry vivian, ems chief christopher good, station chief’s tim rismondo, bill hagenbaugh and gary biesel. the back mountain regional emergency agency (ema) was formed in 2011 as a cooperative effort of dallas borough, dallas township, kingston township, lehman township, jackson township and lake township. the back mountain regional ema shares resources and personnel across municipal boundaries during emergencies that affect the infrastructure and citizens of the region. the ema will operate out of a location on rt. 118 that is currently being constructed with grant funds received by the back mountain community partnership. jackson twp & kingston twp appoint back mountain regional ems to provide ambulance service back mountain regional has been named as the official service for jackson township and kingston township. this change was made after the jackson township ambulance and the trucksville fire, rescue & ems companies announced they had decided they could no longer provide ambulance services due to the cost of staffing a 24 hour per day service. back mountain regional ems has been providing both of these communities with ambulance service since 2011 as their advanced life support ambulance provider. in this role, they responded to approximately 85% of all township ambulance calls along with your local ambulance and provided the care needed on the most serious emergencies. back mountain regional ems currently conducts an annual subscription. we will honor all existing membership subscriptions that were in effect with trucksville or jackson township. this year’s new annual subscription will be sent out in may, with the subscription running through june 30, 2016. the generous donations from members of the back mountain community allows us to provide 24 hour staffing, replace ambulances when necessary, purchase new equipment, as well as improved training for emts and paramedics. on behalf of all the members at back mountain regional fire & ems inc, we sincerely thank you for your continued support year after year of your local fire and ems companies. monthly calls fire 2016 month calls
