helping all students learn successfully homecontact us welcome to the adapa project's spaces site what is the adapa project? we are a non-profit group of educators, students, & others who share a common goal: help all students learn science successfully. to do that means changing how students and teachers approach learning science. we are creating, evaluating, and sharing a variety of tools and resources that: embody current research on how people learn, and proven best practices adapt easily to a variety of settings and local needs can be scaled up make science more accessible and engaging for everyone. what is the spaces site? the adapa project maintains several servers. spaces is the front page for one of our development and testing servers. most materials are limited access. all materials are in draft stage, and may have bugs or errors. if you are looking for any projects or materials hosted by the adapa project, please use the buttons under current projects to reach the appropriate sources. they take you to our active, public projects. spaces projects and resources insert links here as needed. currently active projects and resources our main in-production projects are summarized here. click the icons to learn more. our main web space why do some learners succeed, but others do not? decades of research all point to the same conclusion: "one size for all" teaching strategies do not work for most students. there are strategies for improving learning based on sound evidence that work in many settings, but finding and implementing them can be daunting. learn from us what works, why it works, and how you can apply it to your own teaching. our toolset - the alt framework unlike many edu-tech models, we rely on open-source technologies to build educational resources that support how students learn naturally, & work on a range of devices. teachers & designers can blend their local materials with nearly any web-based resource. students can connect to those materials using most any device that has an html-5 compliant web browser. biobook our first "e-source" built with the alt framework. unlike static print textbooks, our platform and content are open-source. concepts are organized as branches on a tree, with connections to all supporting materials. teachers can modify biobook to fit how they teach & their students' specific needs. it also costs a fraction of what commercial books do. teaching genetics with dogs a student-friendly way to join classical & modern genetics to anatomy, physiology, and function. check out our growing library of user-submitted teaching problems, published datasets, photos tagged with key traits & genotypes, news feed, and q&a forum to support users. first year writing seminar teaching science discourse and information literacy is tough. one team instructor is using near-peer writing to ignite the imagination of students. science writers project our newest project is a joint effort by professional writing instructors in english and biology teachers to find better ways to train and support student writers. let's talk! want to know more? interested in using our tools, sharing yours, or have an idea for a new one? want to collaborate on an e-source or other project? have an innovation you want to share with the education community? we want to hear from you! contact us! copyright 2013 - the adapa project web hosting by bluehost
